  • There is a measurable link between housing features and common chronic conditions.
  • Enabling more older people to live safely & well at home is not only important because it saves the NHS and Social Services money, and also because it improves older people’s lives.
  • What can we do to help
  • The work that WHIS deliver supports people to remain as independent as possible in their own homes for as long as possible
  • The main aim is to remove hazards from the home; cold, damp, electrical, fall hazards to support independence.
  • All the work done is bespoke to the individual client, their home and their needs.

  • What is available
  • We have a handyperson service that is free to our qualifying clients, provided you are 60 + Owner Occupier and on an income related benefit ie, PCGC, Council Tax Reduction etc
  • Grants, if the total value of work needed is under £500.
  • No fees/interest loans (attached as a charge to the property repaid on sale or change of ownership if the total value of work is valued from £501 – £10,000.
  • Support and project management through any alterations for those who are able to pay
  • Hoarding
  • Hoarding has serious implications for health and wellbeing of all occupants
  • Wolverhampton has set up formal protocol to deal with hoarding cases in the city
  • A multi disciplinary team meet to discuss and support cases
  • Hoarding severity is measured on a scale 5 and above are deemed as hoarding cases
